Once you’ve completed 4 days of training in the basics of working safely at height utilizing Rope Access, the final day will be for assessment.  These assessments are carried out by an independent IRATA assessor. Don’t let the thought of an assessment put you off though!
All Rope Access Technicians are required to complete this, so we’ll do our very best to ease your worries and help you to work on any points you feel require special attention.
This IRATA rope access level 1 course introduces the different principles of working at height, the safe systems of work, safety equipment to be utilised and an introduction to the legislation that is in place to protect people working at height.
This encompasses ascending, descending, transferring from rope to rope, rebelays, deviations and aid climbing.
This is a rope access technician who is able to perform a specified range of rope access tasks
under the supervision of a Level 3 rope access safety supervisor. He/she is:

 a) able to understand and follow the rope access procedures, method statements and associated risk assessments
b) responsible for pre-use checks of his/her own rope access equipment
c) able to assist in rigging and other operations, under the guidance of a higher
d) able to undertake a simple rescue in descent, and assist in rescue operations.

 NOTE While in the process of being trained to Level 1, a person is considered to be a trainee.

Assessments are carried out by an independent IRATA assessor.
